David Trumbo

Subjects: Study Skills Specialist, ACT, ELA

David Trumbo is the Director of Motivation Tutoring. He is a former Middle School teacher and
holds a B.A. in Creative Writing from UW-Milwaukee. He has more than 7 years of professional
tutoring experience, in addition to a Master’s in Education. His areas of expertise include – but are
not limited to – writing, reading comprehension, grammar, note taking, study skills, and test prep. By
combining his knowledge of teaching with his tutoring experience, David has developed one of the
best ACT prep programs in the Midwest, which he tailors to fit individual needs. In his spare time
(which is extremely limited) he enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with his family.

Patrick Flaherty

Subjects: HS Mathematics (Algebra – Calculus)

Patrick Flaherty graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in May 2014 with a B.S. in Architectural Engineering and an M.S. in Structural Engineering. While at MSOE, he tutored for two years at St. Joan Antida High School in Milwaukee where he gained valuable experience working with students to understand their difficulties comprehending and completing their coursework in mathematics and engineering design classes. Patrick has always felt that he has a natural talent for helping people understand difficult concepts and he continues to grow this talent while working with Motivation Tutoring students. Patrick also currently works as a project engineer for Riley Construction and enjoys spending his free time biking, skiing, disc-golfing, and relaxing with friends.

Meagan Langfield

Meagan Langfield graduated in 2012 with a Secondary Education-Mathematics degree from Concordia University Wisconsin. She is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Marquette. She hopes to work with adolescents who struggle with behavior issues. She has taught middle school and high school mathematics in Milwaukee for two years.  Meagan has worked with students of varying levels and motivations in mathematics, including many with IEPs. She approaches tutoring from a variety of perspectives including education, motivation, and attitude. She believes that a well-rounded approach to tutoring will help all students wherever they are at academically. She enjoys sports, especially football, spending time with her cat and dog, and playing cards.

Mark Carthon III

Subjects: Mathematics

Mark Carthon III is studying pure mathematics as an undergraduate at UW-Milwuakee. Mark is an Honors student who is also a member of multiple National Honors Society organizations including Phi Sigma Theta, Tau Sigma and Golden Key. As a member of the Math Club at UW-Milwuakee, Mark attends lectures where some of the most sophisticated mathematical concepts are discussed. In addition to this, Mark has been on the Dean’s List multiple times. Mark’s ultimate goal is to attend graduate school to study pure mathematics in order to become a professor of mathematics. Mark learns from his students too, he gains valuable teaching experience that will be necessary for his career in the future.

Dan Swanson

Subjects: Mathematics

Dan Swanson is currently an undergrad student at UW Milwaukee studying pure mathematics and computer science. He is graduating this fall and plans on pursuing a master’s degree immediately after graduation. He is the former president of the UWM Math Club and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. His areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and analysis. He has been a math tutor since September 2012, and has tutored for the UWM math department since February 2013.

Jaylyn Fisher

Jaylyn Fisher is currently an undergraduate at the UW-Milwuakee pursuing a degree in Middle-Childhood Education with minors in math and history. She has a passion for helping children succeed academically as she knows education is the key to many opportunities. She has tutored at Silverbrook Middle School for two years, where she assisted students with math, reading, English, and social studies. She also tutors at Cooper Elementary School working with students from 4th to 8th grade. While observing this classroom, she has developed an interest for working with children with cognitive disabilities as well. “When I see kids eager to learn, it inspires me to strive for my ultimate goal of becoming an urban educator” Jaylyn reports. During the school year, she also volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sisters and is an active member of the ALD honor society. In her free time, she enjoys playing sports, going to the beach, and spending time with her friends and family.

Jessica Savoie

Jessica Savoie is currently studying as an undergraduate in Pure Mathematics and Computer Science at UW-Milwaukee. After graduation she plans to begin pursuing a master’s degree in Actuarial Sciences. She has two years of experience tutoring at Carroll University and Waukesha South High school in Waukesha, WI, with a focus on tutoring those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other learning disorders. She enjoys tutoring algebra, trigonometry, geometry, logical analysis, statistics and English writing and reading comprehension. Jessica understands that tutoring is a learning experience for both the tutor and the student, as the student can help prepare the tutor with valuable life skills for the future and has passion to do the same for all of her students.

Grace Lejman

Grace Lejman is currently studying Biomechanical Engineering as an undergraduate at Marquette University. Grace is the Vice President of Society of Women Engineers, where she helps encourage women to join STEM fields. Her area of expertise includes: algebra, calculus, geometry, physics, and study skills.

Annie Frankovis, M.Ed.

Subjects: Middle and High School Mathmatics

Annie Frankovis is a former high school and middle school math teacher. She has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Houston, a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction for Secondary Mathematics, and coursework completed at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee towards a Ph.D. in Urban Education for Mathematics. Annie tutored grades 4-12 while in her undergraduate program, taught two years of middle school mathematics, seven years of high school mathematics, and is currently an adjunct instructor at WCTC. She has a natural ability to break down problems in a way for students to understand, and she also teaches multiple strategies in problem solving in order to arrive at the answer. In her spare time, Annie likes to spend time with her three nephews, write, and cook dinner with friends.

Bailey Schmitt

Subjects: Algebra I & II

Bailey Schmitt is an undergraduate student at the UW-Milwuakee majoring in Mathematics Education with a duel degree in Mathematics. Bailey worked within the math program at UW-Milwuakee for three years before realizing her real dream was to teach others about the wonders of the math world. This is when she added the education degree and turned her focus towards teaching. Bailey has been on the College of Letters and Science’s Dean’s List for nearly all her time at UWM and she hopes to continue this success now that she is in the education program. Her goal upon graduation is to become a high school math teacher.

Natalie O’Connor

Subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Study Skills

Natalie O’Connor is a very experienced tutor with hundreds of referrals from the Whitefish Bay High School Guidance Department (earning the most referred Science Tutor designation for 9 years) and as a Long Term Chemistry Substitute teacher at Torah Academy. As a Chemistry/FCP, Biology, and General Studies tutor, she has a unique ability to impart knowledge to those who struggle with scientific issues while serving highly successful students who want to maintain an A+ grade. Natalie has a B.S. in Chemistry (cum laude) and has extensive knowledge of chemistry, biology, and physics. She has developed excellent in person rapport with families from all social economic backgrounds. Natalie is an invaluable asset to Motivation Tutoring.

Joseph O’Halloran

Joseph O’Halloran is a graduate student studying Physics at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, and got his BA from Lawrence University in Physics and Mathematics. He has over 100 hours of tutoring experience, both private and in the tutoring center at UW-Milwaukee. Joseph believes that because there are many ways to approach problems in math and science, his goal is to help students find an approach which makes sense to them. In his free time, he enjoys playing various board and video games, reading, and playing clarinet in the University Community Orchestra.

Esther Aviles

Esther Aviles is a senior Honors student at Marquette University completing her B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She got her start tutoring youth in ESL while studying abroad in Spain during high school. Her approach to tutoring is informed by coursework in humanistic developmental psychology and neuroscience. Esther works to form encouraging, yet authoritative relationships with students of all ages and abilities to transform attitudes and build confidence. She has had success with students studying Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and Study Skills, including AP and SAT Subject Test preparation. In addition to her coursework, Esther enjoys tinkering with gecko genomics in the lab, petting nearly every dog she encounters and discovering new music.

Amber Redemann

Amber Redemann graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2009 with a B.S. in Middle Childhood-Early Adolescence Education. For three years, Amber taught for Milwaukee Public Schools. She continued her teaching career in Vietnam where she also began tutoring. After one year, Amber moved back to the U.S. and taught high-school students at St. Thomas More High School in Milwaukee. As a tutor, Amber helps her students take ownership of their learning and works with them to establish, reflect upon, and achieve their goals. She enjoys baking, being with her family, and renovating her house.

Jacob Vanderkin

Jacob Vanderkin is currently a student at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee pursuing both post-bachelor’s teaching certification in English and a Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. Jacob has served as a teaching assistant at the university level, an English as a Second Language teacher, and as a tutor and is glad to continue that pattern of growth with Motivation Tutoring. Jacob is as passionate about learning and improving himself as he is about instruction and proliferating knowledge and curiosity among others. With experience in academic writing, creative writing, reading comprehension, grammar, phonics, and literature, Jacob is as versatile and resourceful as his varied background might suggest. When he’s not working or hitting the books, you can find Jacob hiking or board gaming with friends, practicing Chinese, or catching up on his personal reading list over a relaxing cup of tea.
